Eating & Drinking Instructions Using Nitrous Oxide

2 HOURS BEFORE APPOINTMENT

1. No Dairy, Soy, Almond or Coconut Milks
2. No Citrus
3. Something Plain (Piece of Toast/ PlainBagel)
4. Water

General Care for Tooth-Colored Fillings

Your child has just had a tooth-colored composite filling placed. These fillings are rather fragile, and these are some things you should know about them.

DO:
  1. Brush and floss daily
  2. Keep gums clean next to fillings. If the filling is large, your child may experience some sensitivity to hot or cold for the next few days. Sometimes the gums getting irritated from the raincoat, if this happens: Do Salt water swishes(1/4 t salt to 8oz of warm water, 2-3 times a day). If the tooth begins to “throb” please call our office.
  3. Call if filling feels broken or painful
  4. Liquids ONLY until the numbness is gone usually 1-3 hours after appointment. Please make sure your child doesn’t chew on his/her lips or tongue while numb
DO NOT:
  1. Reattach the filling if it comes off
  2. Apply finger or tongue pressure to the filling
  3. Especially for Fillings done on the Front Teeth: Bite hard food or open objects with your front teeth. Foods such as apples, carrots, and breads with hard crusts should be cut up and chewed with back teeth.

General Care for Silver Crown (Caps)

Your child has just had a stainless steel crown (cap) placed. This is a special kind of filling that requires some special care in order for it to last as long as possible.

DO:
  1. Brush and floss daily
  2. Keep gums clean next to crown (cap)
  3. Call if crown (cap) feels loose or painful
  4. Liquids ONLY until the numbness is gone usually 1-3 hours after appointment. Please make sure your child doesn’t chew on his/her lips or tongue while numb
DO NOT:
  1. Reattach the crown (cap) if it comes off
  2. Apply finger or tongue pressure to the crown(cap)
  3. Eat/chew sticky foods (gum, taffy, caramel, etc.) The crown has been cemented onto your child’s tooth, and these kinds of foods can loosen or pull the crown off.

General Care for Spacers & Appliances

Your child has just had a space maintainer placed in order to preserve space that might  otherwise be lost as a result of a missing tooth. This is a custom-made appliance and must be treated with care. This can best be done by following these instructions.

DO:
  1. Brush and floss daily
  2. Keep gums clean next to appliance
  3. Call if the appliance feels loose or broken as soon as possible
DO NOT:
  1. Adjust the appliance yourself
  2. Apply finger or tongue pressure to the appliance
  3. Eat/chew sticky foods (gum, taffy, caramel, etc.) Although the appliance is durable, it can be damaged or loosened with such foods.
